P1 Licence information

Provisional Licence - P1 Red P's

• To get your red P's (P1) you must first pass a Driving Ability Road Test (DART) the cost of booking a test is $43.00 for each attempt
• You must be 17 or over to take the Driving Ability Road Test (DART)
• You must have Zero (nil) Blood Alcohol Concentration (you can not drink anything with alcohol and check with your doctor because some medication can‘t be used)
• Your maximum speed is 90KM/H
• There must be red P plates displayed back and front of the outside of the vehicle
• $45.00 for the cost of the P1 licence when you pass
• The licence is valid for up to 18 months. You must hold the licence for at least 12 months before going for your P2 licence (green P's)
• You only have 4 Points on your licence (Take extra care to follow the rules)
• If you pass in an automatic vehicle you may be restricted to driving only an automatic car during this period (If you pass in a manual cars there are no restrictions on your licence)
• If you loose 4 or more demerit points during the term of your licence, action will be taken to suspend the licence. Please note that any demerit points will carry over to your P2 licence
• You must not drive any vehicle with eight or more cylinders, as well as turbocharged or supercharged engines (diesel powered engines exempt), Modifications that increase engine performance or Any other vehicle identified by the RTA – further details available on the RTA website (Please note exemptions may apply)
• Mobile phones, including hands free are not to be used by the P1 driver
• By law seatbelts must be worn by all occupants of the vehicle and approved child restraints fitted.
• If you are under the age of 25 you must not drive with more than one passenger under the age of 21 between the hours of 11pm and 5am
• Towing restrictions do apply
• You are not to supervise learner drivers (you need to have a full licence for this)

If you display the L or P plates at the licence plates don't hide the number plate. This is against the law...
